GOBERNANZA DEL AGUA Y TERRITORIOS HIDROSOCIALES: DEL ANÁLISIS INSTITUCIONAL A LA ECOLOGÍA POLÍTICA

2018

Rainwater harvesting in urban areas of developed countries. The state of the art (1980-2017)

2020

Many urban areas suffer from water scarcity although paradoxically, a local source such as rainwater is mostly treated as a risk rather than a valuable resource. This change of paradigm is included in the 'integrated water resources management' and 'demand management' approach. The aim of this research is to identify and analyse studies that explore subject matters concerning rainwater in the integrated management systems of water resources into developed countries. The research methodology consisted in a literature review (from the 1980s to 2017) of territorial studies that examine rainwater harvesting in urban areas of the developed countries. To this end, a bibliometric analysis has been…

We therefore questioned the existence and effect of current drought management strategies on the actual impacts and how drought is perceived by relevant stakeholders. Over 700 participants from 28 European countries provided insights into drought hazard and impact perception and current management strategies. The study concludes with an urgent need to collectively combat drought risk via a European macro-level drought governance approach.11. Essays in applied microeconomics on water resources management

2017

Opportunity Costs of Ensuring Sustainability in Urban Water Services

2011

This paper assesses technical performance in the water industry in the Southern European region of Andalusia, while accounting for sustainability in the management of water. This allows the opportunity cost of producing sustainability to be evaluated. Given the low cost of raw water in Spain in relation to the estimated opportunity cost of saving this natural resource, wasting water becomes a profitable strategy for utility managers from a private perspective. However, this managerial strategy has a huge social cost in an area of Europe where the sustainable management of water is a pressing need. The conclusion is that environmental policy aimed at discouraging this wasteful behaviour is u…

Flowers, Water accumulation and Corporate Social Responsibility: Certification of the Production of Roses and Claims for Environmental Justice in Ecu…

2018

The Wastewater – A Problem of Integrated Urban Water Management

2013

Abstract In order to live the man uses various generating resources through waste products his work. Use of water resources causes many types of wastewater, depending on the type of household consumption, industrial or city. Integrated management of water resources represents practical ways in which sustainable development is achieved in the field of water, including wastewater management, and is also the responsibility of all interested parties: the state, local communities, users, operators and NGOs waters. The present study shows the role and the importance of integrated management of urban water. The steps to be followed in establishing wastewater management are trying highlighting new …

A mathematical model for wastewater modification processes assessment in a stabilization reservoir

2012

The paper presents a mathematical model for the simulation of the ecological status of a wastewater stabilization reservoir (WSR). WSRs are hypertrophic aquatic systems devoted to storage of water resources in warm countries where shortage conditions have quite often to be faced. Several factors that affect the stabilization reservoir effluent quality were taken into account: hydraulics and hydrology, solar radiation, atmospheric reaeration, algae, zooplankton, organic matter, pathogen bacteria, and sediment-water interaction. The model quantifies the specific influence of each factor on effluent quality, evaluating the correlation between the different considered factors. State variables i…

Wastewater modification processes in a stabilization reservoir: a new mathematical model

2018

The paper presents a mathematical model for the simulation of the ecology of a wastewater stabilization reservoir (WSR). WSRs are hypertrophic aquatic systems devoted to water storage in warm countries where shortage conditions are often encountered. Several factors that affect the stabilization reservoir’s effluent quality were taken into account: hydraulics and hydrology, solar radiation, reaeration, algae, zooplankton, organic matter, pathogens, and sediment-water interactions. The model quantifies the specific influence of each factor on effluent quality, and evaluating the correlation between the different factors. State variables included in the model were: algae, dissolved oxygen, or…
